LAFIS (South Tyrol)

This guide shows you how to export your vineyard data from LAFIS (Land- und forstwirtschaftliches Informationssystem — the agricultural and forestry information system of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano – South Tyrol) as a shapefile, and import it into Vinitor. LAFIS maintains South Tyrol’s wine-growing register and provides, for each vineyard, the name, grape variety, vine area and area geometry, among other data.

  1. Open the LAFIS wine-growing register

Open your access to the LAFIS wine-growing register, or contact the office that manages your area data. Make sure the areas for the current year are fully recorded.

  2. Request the shapefile export

Request an export of your vineyard areas in shapefile format (.shp). The export contains the area geometries as well as the attribute data (including vineyard name, grape variety and area).

  3. Save the ZIP file

Save the exported file to your computer. A complete shapefile export consists of several components, usually bundled together in a ZIP archive:

    • *.shp — Geometry data of the vineyards
    • *.shx — Spatial index
    • *.dbf — Attribute data (name, grape variety, area, etc.)
    • *.prj — Coordinate system

If the export isn’t already packaged as a ZIP file, combine the four files into a ZIP archive.

  4. Import the ZIP file into Vinitor

Open the Vinitor Dashboard and navigate to the Field record book. Click Import in the top right, select LAFIS (South Tyrol) as the import source, upload the ZIP file and click “Import”.

The wizard guides you through the import in three steps. For detailed information about the import wizard, see Import vineyards.

Where do I get my LAFIS export? LAFIS is operated by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano – South Tyrol. You’ll usually get the shapefile export through your advisory association (Beratungsring), your district community, or the responsible provincial department of agriculture. If you have questions, our support team is happy to help.

Which data is transferred? From the LAFIS export, Vinitor transfers the vineyard name, grape variety, vine area and area geometry. Fields such as leaf wall height and row spacing are not included in the export and should be added after the import.

Which file format is required? The shapefile format is required for the import into Vinitor, as it contains the geometry data (area outlines). Upload the shapefile components as a ZIP archive.
